PENTHOUSE LIVING

Drawing upon the great tradition of Greenwich Village townhouse living, Robert A.M. Stern Architects conceived of Sixteen Fifth’s Avenue’s penthouse floors with interior stairs—as townhouses in the sky. The duplex and triplex units are tucked into the building’s romantically arranged setbacks, so that interior rooms, terraces, and balconies are seamlessly interwoven. Thanks to their combination of verticality and indoor-outdoor living, homeowners and guests experience the penthouses as they would the historic brownstones lining Greenwich Village’s streets.

"We love the idea of taking a townhouse, which you would normally see on the street, and placing that scale of living at the top of the building. Nobody has used a townhouse as the crown of a building before."

PUBLIC SPACES

Robert A.M. Stern Architects’ treatment of the penthouses as townhouses in the sky is immediately apparent upon entry to both residences. These duplex and triplex homes open to a stair-ringed foyer, which graciously leads to a great room that enjoys two exposures—one to the south for optimal daylight and the other to the east for picturesque Fifth Avenue views. Curated materials and carefully detailed millwork underscore the quality with which the firm has approached each residence’s overall design.

SIXTEEN FIFTH AVENUE IS A STANDOUT IN ROBERT A.M. STERN ARCHITECTS’ OEUVRE FOR ITS MEMORABLE INTIMACY AND UNPRECEDENTED PENTHOUSE LAYOUTS.

MILLWORK

All kitchens at Sixteen Fifth Avenue are the work of Christopher Peacock, the global leader in luxury kitchen design and time-honored craftsmanship.

APPLIANCES

Miele appliances are synonymous with quiet operation, durability, and style. Each Sixteen Fifth Avenue kitchen is outfitted in a suite of Miele’s best-in-class MasterCool products.

FITTINGS

Hardware is the jewelry of a kitchen. At Sixteen Fifth Avenue, kitchen cabinetry is adorned in hardware from Christopher Peacock’s Lambourne collection.

BEDROOM

Penthouses comprise five bedrooms, each of which includes an en-suite bath. The primary suite quintessentially captures Robert A.M. Stern Architects’ understanding of the bedroom as a haven within the city. Perched high above Fifth Avenue, the primary suite includes dual dressing rooms as well as bathrooms, in addition to an outdoor terrace or Juliet balcony. Indoor-outdoor connectivity and the sheer volume of space set the primary suite apart as something genuinely covetable.

"We studied this building down to the littlest detail, and everything is bespoke."

BATHROOMS

A penthouse residence includes six en-suite bathrooms and two powder rooms in total. Each space is an exemplar of functionality and personal comfort, while engaging in a poetic dialogue with the traditions of classical architecture.
